Repairing a tarp, quite an art!

Choosing a quality tarp is important for its lifespan. A tarp that is designed with durable materials and assembled using heat sealing will last longer. But like anything else, a tarp inevitably needs repairs during its useful life. Tears due to poor installation, impact, or sharp objects, truck tarps often endure the worst treatments.

So how can you ensure that a repair will extend the life of the tarp at a reasonable cost? Simple: deal with a professional truck tarp specialist!

The first mistake to avoid? Repairing the tarp yourself with duct tape. Even for temporary repairs, the tape adhesive will be difficult to completely remove. And the solvent needed to do so will damage the vinyl of the tarp. There are temporary repair kits with a less aggressive PVC glue for the tarp, which allow you to complete the journey without further damage. They are of course more expensive than a piece of duct tape, but will save you much more by preserving your tarp. Keep them in your toolbox!

For permanent repairs, it is important to use a piece of quality coated fabric. The higher the quality of the piece, the more durable the repair will be. At Alyak 2000, the pieces used for repairs are made of the same material as for the production of new tarps: Naizil’s Tarpmaster. Recognized for its durability, waterproofing, and flexibility, Naizil’s Tarpmaster also offers superior adhesion with heat sealing.

The second important point: examining the tarp. In addition to a visual inspection to determine if the tarp is worth repairing, Alyak 2000 conducts a thorough examination on a light table to detect all the small holes difficult to see with the naked eye.

Once the damage is identified, the repair process must allow the tarp to withstand. Alyak 2000 uses the latest heat sealing techniques, using the Swiss Leister Triac heat gun. The repair is carried out underneath the tarp to reduce visual impact and preserve the aesthetics of the tarp. The tarp and the piece are heated to create a fusion almost as solid as the thermal fusion used for tarp assembly.

Alyak 2000 uses precut pieces to reduce repair time by nearly 30%. These pieces with rounded corners also reduce the risk of delamination compared to square pieces with corners that tend to lift. Finally, special care is taken with the edges of the piece to ensure the best possible adhesion.

It is Alyak 2000’s experience in tarp repair that led the company to develop all its expertise in tarp production. And it is by repairing tarps made of low-quality materials and assembled with unreliable processes that Alyak 2000 came to the conclusion that it was far preferable to invest in high-quality tarps assembled according to best practices.

So, for your tarp repairs, who better than an expert? Plus, Alyak 2000 offers pickup and delivery of your tarps from Kingston, Ontario, to Quebec City.
